Later in the text he brings up the central theme of the 1932 essay:

“Marx was not familiar with the stages of Hegel’s philosophy prior to the ‘Phenomenology’, but he nevertheless caught the critical impact of Hegel’s analysis, even in the attenuated form in which social problems were permitted to enter the ‘Phenomenology of Mind’. The greatness of that work he saw in the fact that Hegel conceived the ‘self creation’ of man (that is, the creation of a reasonable social order through man’s free action) as the process of ‘reification’ and its ‘negation’, in short, that he grasped the ‘nature of labor’ and saw man to be ‘the result of his labor’.” (32).
